The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in partnership with the Uganda Aeronautical Information Services Officers’ Association (UGAISOA), has unveiled the 2024 Aviation Run, set for Sunday, October 20, 2024.
Commencing at 6:30 a.m. at the Mayor’s Garden in Entebbe, the event is part of the celebrations commemorating the 80th anniversary of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
Under the theme “Safe Skies. Sustainable Future,” the Aviation Run aims to underscore the significance of safety within the aviation industry and its crucial role in promoting sustainable growth.
All funds raised from the event will be directed towards menstrual health education and the provision of sanitary materials for girls in Namayingo and Budondo, located in Jinja District.
Vianney Luggya, UCAA’s spokesperson, highlighted the dual purpose of the event, saying, “The Aviation Run not only commemorates ICAO’s 80 years of ensuring safe skies but also offers us the opportunity to give back to the community.”
He continued, “We are devoted to supporting young girls in Namayingo and Budondo by equipping them with the necessary resources and knowledge for improved menstrual health.”
Luggya also stressed the importance of community involvement within the aviation sector, noting that the event serves as a platform for the public to engage in a meaningful cause.
“With this initiative, we are connecting aviation safety and sustainability with the broader idea of social responsibility. We invite everyone to take part and make a positive impact.”
In a statement, UGAISOA expressed enthusiasm for the event, saying, “Our partnership with UCAA for the Aviation Run reflects our commitment to both aviation excellence and uplifting communities. By joining this cause, you are helping to shape a brighter, healthier future for girls in Uganda.”
Participants are encouraged to register early by paying Shs 25,000, with all proceeds supporting initiatives that provide menstrual health education and sanitary protection to girls in need.
