With just 42 days remaining until the Paris 2024 Olympics, Uganda is in the final stages of preparation for the highly anticipated event. This Olympics marks the first full-scale games since the COVID-19 pandemic, featuring a comprehensive range of events including athletics, swimming, rowing, and cycling.
So far, 24 Ugandan athletes have qualified to compete in Paris. The team includes 18 track and field athletes, 2 swimmers, 1 cyclist, and 1 rower. The Olympics will run from July 26 to August 11, 2024, bringing together over 10,000 athletes from around the world.
The Ugandan athletes are currently engaged in intensive training sessions both at home and abroad, with some training camps established in the United States. The team captain has called for supportive and balanced perspectives from fans, saying, “This is more of a mental game. Support your team whether they win or lose. Don’t put them under pressure. Remember Joshua Cheptegei, Peruth Chemutai, and Jacob Kiplimo, who have been top winners in past Olympics.”
The President of the Uganda Olympics Committee also offered words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of the final preparation phase: “The remaining 42 days are critical. The athletes need to stay healthy, and focused, and train very hard so that when July 26th arrives, they can proudly raise the Ugandan flag.”
The concerted efforts of the athletes and support staff are geared towards ensuring that the 24 athletes representing Uganda can perform to the best of their abilities and bring pride to their nation.
