The world’s governing body for football, FIFA has imposed global bans on Ugandan players and referees involved in match fixing scandals.
According to a statement issued on the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) website, FIFA has extended world-wide sanctions on five players and two referees for engaging in match manipulation.
In May last year, FUFA suspended the same individuals for their involvement in manipulating match outcomes. Now, the punishments have now been taken a step further, with FIFA extending these sanctions worldwide.
The players affected by the global bans include Saleh Maganda, formerly of Calvary, Franco Oringa, who played for Northern Gateway, and Godfrey Lwesibawa, Yahaya Mahad Kakooza, and Andrew Waiswa, all previously with Gadaffi.
Mwima Abdallah, who was among those suspended by FUFA last year, is the only one not affected by the global sanction by FIFA.
Each of these players has been handed a five-year ban from all football-related activities.
On the officiating side, referees George Nkurunziza and Deogracious Opio, who had also been suspended by FUFA, have now been banned for 10 years by FIFA.
This comes after FUFA yesterday June 13th, slapped provisional bans ten referees, one player and two administrators for 90 days from all football-related activities for potentially participating in match-fixing activities.
The people affected by yesterday’s FUFA suspension include match officials; Ali Kaddu, Atuheirwe Joyce, Nabisera Tausi, Geoffrey Sajjabi, Noor Hassan, Muyaga Khalid, Okello Simon Peter, Atuhaire Dorcus, Ichilla Samuel, and Nantantya Godwin, Former BUL FC CEO Ahmed Kongola, Administrator Epieru Richard and Football Player Kiyemba Latif, who plays for Lugazi FC.
