NCBA Bank Uganda CEO, Mark Muyobo, stated that the NCBA golf series reflects the company’s vision of championing greatness through sports. The series is set to be held in Jinja this year, alongside outings at the Uganda Golf Club (UGC), Kitante, and Entebbe Golf Club.
This announcement follows the first edition of the year held over the weekend at UGC, where over 200 amateur and professional golfers participated. The event, marking the fourth year of the series, featured juniors, ladies, and men categories. Next Media Group CEO, Kin Karisa, served as the guest of honor. Golfers also competed in nearest to the pin and longest drive side bets.
“Golf is a game we have identified to support in ensuring that players excel in the game. The series not only benefits golfers financially but also raises the profile of the golfers. It’s also a qualifier for the final in Nairobi, so it’s an opportunity to excel in the region,” Muyobo noted.
“We are also passionate about the kids and have enabled the local tour by supporting the US Kids tournament. This gives an opportunity to upcoming golfers in various areas with plans to discover talent upcountry.”
The tournament also supported efforts to combat climate change, as 200 trees were planted at UGC, Kitante, as part of plans to plant 10,000 trees across the country by the end of the year. Muyobo emphasized the significance of this initiative.
“We have planted trees to symbolize the players who played today. We need to sustain the environment so that we can continue to enjoy the sport. It’s also part of World Environment Day celebrations,” Muyobo stated.
The NCBA golf series spans golf clubs in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.
