Sudan extended their lead in Group B of the CAF World Cup Qualifiers with a commanding 3-0 victory over South Sudan in a highly anticipated match at the newly inaugurated Juba National Stadium.
The match, attended by dignitaries including South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit and FIFA President Gianni Infantino, marked a historic moment for the nation’s sporting landscape.
Sudan took the lead just before halftime with a goal from Walieldin Khedr in the 45th minute. In the second half, Yasir Mozamil (51′) and Mohamed Abdelrahman (78′) secured the win for Sudan with their goals.
The victory solidifies Sudan’s position at the top of Group B standings with 10 points, while South Sudan remains at the bottom with 2 points.
President Kiir reiterated his government’s commitment to fostering peace and national unity through sports, promising continued investment in athletics, including support for football and basketball players on the global stage.
The Juba National Stadium, constructed over the past five years by GS Construction Company, stands as a testament to South Sudan’s dedication to sports development and has been hailed as a significant milestone for the nation’s sporting aspirations.
