Uganda Cranes fans have expressed their happiness and satisfaction with the developments of the newly refurbished Namboole stadium.
Ahead of the national team match against Botswana on Friday evening, we spoke to some fans who couldn’t hide their excitement about how better the stadium looks now compared to 2019 when the Uganda Cranes last hosted a game there.
Speaking to NBS Sport, the fans expressed their satisfaction with the transformation which has been nothing short of impressive.
“Previously, Namboole was congested, there were no seats, and it was hard for you to move out, but now you can easily move out and come back to your seat number,” said one elated fan, expressing their delight at the enhanced spectator experience.
The playing surface, once a source of concern, has now been hailed as a highlight of the renovations.
“The playing surface is very modern and well-facilitated,” another fan noted. “This brings out good football because good football is played on a good surface.”
Fans were also impressed by the stadium’s improved drainage system, which addresses the previous issues of waterlogging during heavy rain.
“Earlier on, we hosted CECAFA and had floods in the pitch because it had rained. I don’t think that can happen again now,” a fan remarked confidently.
The media tribune has also undergone a significant upgrade, with improved comfort and security measures, much to the appreciation of the journalists covering the match.
“The media tribune now has comfortable seats, charging ports, and maximum security, which wasn’t the case in the test games,” a journalist, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed.
The transformation of the Namboole Stadium has left Ugandan Cranes fans eagerly anticipating the team’s return to their home ground, with high expectations for an electrifying encounter against Botswana.
“I’m happy that they’ve worked on the display screen,” another fan added. “We were here in the test matches, and the screen wasn’t working, but it has now been fixed.”
