Focus will be on sustainable development of motorsport in Uganda as the newly elected Federation of Motorsport Clubs Uganda (FMU) leadership takes office following today’s elective general assembly.
Hon Jimmy Akena garnered 57 votes to see off fellow candidates rally driver John Burrows Lumu (1) and former president George Kagimu (16) to win the presidential race and replace Dipu Ruparelia.
Akena will be deputized by Hamidu Gombe with Arthur Blick voted Deputy Vice President in charge of Motorcycling for the next four years.
Over 70 delegates from 14 affiliate clubs attended the assembly held at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo with the new executive committee includes three elected members with General Secretary Reynolds Kibira, assistant general secretary Jackson Selwanga, Deputy Vice President tallying Joshua Mayanja and deputy vice president touring, vintage and road safety Angella Semukutu elected unopposed.
“We are going to focus on the issues that need to be done and we will start with compliance with the new sports law. We will organize the clubs to prepare for that and we will also put emphasis on the local and international events as we raise the standard of sport and keep the unity,” Akena stated.
Motocross veteran and rally driver Arthur Blick says his focus will be on strengthening ties to ensure unity, “I would like to bring us all together as one and have the executive collaborating with stakeholders including drivers and riders. Together we will be able to take the sport to a higher level,” noted Blick.
