Police have chased journalists from Mulago Referral Hospital where victims of Tuesday’s bomb attacks are being treated.
The development came after scribes interviewed injured cops about today’s bombings at Parliament Avenue and near Kampala Central Police Station.
Officials said cops can only speak to the media when authorised by their superiors.
“It’s my humble appeal to you, our colleagues in the media. We do request that our officers admitted at Mulago not be interviewed,” said Kampala metropolitan Police spokesperson Luke owoyesigire.
“Let them recuperate first.”
According to Mulago Hospital Deputy Executive Director, Rosemary Byanyima, the medics are currently treating 27 casualties of the bomb blast.
“7 are in critical condition while 20 are in stable condition,” said Byanyima in a brief engagement with the media.
“Of the 27, 7 are females while 20 are males,” she added.
Byanyima said the majority of the victims are Police officers.
We understand at least 19 police officers are admitted at Mulago Hospital.
It’s been reported that interns are on strike.
Asked how the hospital is coping with the situation, she said, “there is enough manpower.”
Medics in other units have been called to help in handling emergencies.
“Handling 27 patients is not a big deal,” said Byanyima.
“There are no children among the victims.”
