Police in a Joint Operation with the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) have arrested three suspects for dropping threatening anonymous letters in Katabi, Entebbe.
The Anonymous letters which sparked the operation included threats to injure the mayor of Katabi town council Kalema Ronald, his family and people in Entebbe Municipality.
These letters have been circulating on social media and other platforms causing fear and anxiety.
Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga identified the suspects as Lubega William, a 27-year-old mechanic in Katabi, Kiligwajjo Asadu, a former bodyguard to the mayor and Baluku Ronald who was rearrested on 7th September,2021.
“These have been using the anonymous letters as a cover up for their acts of criminality. This is a gang that had specialized in theft of car number plates in Katabi and other areas of Entebbe as well as house breakings.” he said.
Enanga also attributed this criminality to the wave of panga welding assailants in Masaka, which he said the Katabi gangs had adopted and started threatening residents with Anonymous letters.
This gang is said to be led by one only known as “Taata Muzeeyi” who is on the run.
Lubega William on the other hand is said to be the one supplying the house breaking implements that the gang was using.
On 28th they broke into the premises of a one Mulindwa Andrew and stole number plates UAN 285Z and also shattered the windscreen of another vehicle and vandalized it.
The former bodyguard to the mayor is accused of dropping threatening letters to his former boss house threatening his life and demanding by menace 2 million Uganda shillings.
