Uganda Revenue Authority on Thursday evening reportedly dispatched an enforcement team to the home of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine in Magere.

The team according to reports, had gone to impound the new Toyota Land Cruiser recently acquired by Mr Bobi Wine.

The armoured vehicle which was reportedly donated to him by supporters is now being investigated by the tax body.

A team from the URA flanked by Police was reported outside Bobi Wine’s gate on Thursday evening.

The Authority spokesperson Ian Rimanyika however, declined to give details about the operation

“Until we have concluded the investigation, we will not make any further comment,” he said.

The vehicle, he said, was being investigated “in accordance with our usual practices.”

It should be noted that URA cleared the vehicle into the country after paying taxes totalling Shs 88Million.

According to reports, the SUV was driven into the country by a Kenyan national identified as Fauz Khalid, with Reg. No. KCY550X.

Khalid was able to register the car through an agent, after it was inspected and cleared by URA.

Later however, Khalid applied for change of ownership into Bobi Wine’s names last week.

Following Bobi Wine’s unveiling of the vehicle this week, officials at URA are reported to have come under pressure from higher-ups in Security about how the clearance was handled.

The matter has since sucked in the Inspectorate of Government, which demanded that Bobi Wine declares how he received the vehicle.

The acting Inspector General of Government (IGG) George Bamugemereire was reportedly saying that Bobi Wine as a leader of a political party registered under Ugandan laws, like any other leader, he’s expected to periodically declare his wealth, irrespective of how it was acquired.
