Police in Kabale have in detention a 62-year-old man for marrying and sexually molesting his own under age ten-year-old daughter.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman identified the suspect as Gerevazio Tiryambwenu of Rwamukundi cell, Kirijime ward in Kabale municipality.
Maate says that Tiryambwenu was arrested on Wednesday by police in collaboration with the senior probation officer Kabale district, Mrs Monica Muhumuza.
The police had been tipped off by an NGO called “Keeping Children Healthier and Safe” whose work involves protecting young children from abuse.
The suspect is said to have taken advantage of his daughter and started using her as his wife after her mother, Gloria Tumwebaze divorced him and left the girl behind.
The girl told authorities that her father started having carnal knowledge of her months ago whenever he returned home in the night.
Shockingly, on Tuesday this week, the father took girl to Rugarama Hospital to get her started on family planning methods which prompted the hospital staff to call the social workers from the NGO.
It was also confirmed that the young girl had been infected with HIV.
Maate says police preparing to have the suspect taken to court to be duly charged.
