Mayor Vincent Kayanja Depaul is at cross roads after losing the recent mayoral race 2021 in Entebbe.
The Democratic Party flag bearer has lost the political ground after losing the ball in his hands to ruling party independent candidate Fabrice Rulinda in a magical contest.
Kayanja lost the mayoral ball on the 25th/Jan/2021 after contesting with several others including outgoing division ‘A’ Chairman Micheal Kabwama Mutebi on NRM party ticket, Oliva Nassuna on NUP ticket, Ken Simbwa on Mugisha Muntu ticket plus area parliamentarian Muhammad Kawuma.
In a letter dated 9th/Feb/2021, Mr Kayanja has pinned his rival Fabrice over rigging the mayoral elections at 10polling stations with 3911 votes added to his name, making him the winner in recently contested election.
“The results for the mayoral elections were changed in Wakiso declaring the 3rd(Mr. Rulinda Fabrice Brad) to be the winner with an addition of 3911 rigged votes from 10(ten) polling stations. This broad daylight rigging with the town deployed with security officers leaves a lot of questions in the minds of our residents in regard to mission behind the rigging.
“I have taken the course of the law to defend the mandate you gave me but also to seriously uphold democracy and the rule of law is a strong pillar of governance at local and international level . I will be putting in a petition in the courts of law immediately Mr Rulinda Fabrice Brad is gazetted by the electoral commission” reads Kayanja’s letter.
In the twist of events, Mr. Kayanja lost the mayoral elections after earlier results put him in the lead over 6000votes.
Kayanja insists that the Declaration of Results (DR) forms of the three competitive candidates put him in the lead with 5,672 votes ahead of NRM’s Micheal Mutebi Nyamayalwo who garnered 5,257 votes, whereas Fabrice Rulinda who was declared winner got only 2,825 votes.
