Former Rukiga County Member of Parliament and FDC’s National Chairman of the Elderly Council Hon Jack Sabiiti has urged President Yoweri Museveni to hand over power to the young generation and take a break from leadership.

Sabiiti says President Museveni should follow the likes of him and other colleagues who fought with him in the bush, and have since taken a back seat from leadership.

“We joined President Museveni and got guns and fought Obote but now it’s 35 years, and the man doesn’t want to leave power. A person like Bobi Wine was 4 years when president Museveni came to power. This is not a monarchy,” he said.

“The president has said he hasn’t seen a smart person to replace him, but he is not the smartest person in the country. I am even more educated than him because he has only one degree.”

Sabiiti was on Saturday campaigning for Rukiga district FDC candidates at Ibugwe

Sabiti asked the people of Kigezi to vote out the incumbent President, Yoweri Museveni, saying he has delayed to fulfill his promises to voters in the region and has nothing more to offer the country.

He cited a number of roads that remain in bad shape in the area such as Muhanga- Kisiizi road, Muhanga-Kamwezi road, lack of a ferry on Lake Bunyonyi, unstable power supply, as well as the pending construction of John Kale University in Kisoro district, and setting up iron ore factory among others.

“This is the right time to retire Museveni since he can no longer change the lives of Ugandans after frustrating them for more than 30 years” said Sabiti.

Sabiiti also asked voters to put religion, culture, relationships and tribe aside and vote for leaders who have the ability improve service delivery in their communities.

The FDC flag bearer for the Rukiga LCV Chairperson seat, Michael Kwarikunda Mbareba promised to improve the road network in the district, once he is elected into office.
