Private schools teachers across the country are shedding crocodile tears after COVID hitting them to the bone marrow.
This follows after hundreds of private school teachers meeting State Minister for Primary Education Hon Rosemary Nansubuga Seninde at the Entebbe Secondary School playground on Tuesday.
Teachers told the minister that COVID 19 has hit them hard for all theses months and to matters worse, many of them have no contracts.
‘COVID 19 has rendered them jobless for the last 8months and to make matters worse even our former bosses have put a deaf ear” said angry teachers.
Teachers queried the presidential pledge now stuck within the government coffers, amounting to shs20Bn.
The Minister Seninde pledged to follow up the teachers’ fund stuck with government this coming financial quarter.
Seninde advised teachers to be patient for a while as government is yet recruiting the required human resources and managers.
“Teachers are my learning friends and committed to make a difference in their lives” said Seninde.
She added that “teachers need another alternative source of income using government resources to make ends meet including building houses and developing projects”.
One of the affected private teachers, Councilor Richard Wamala said “that the private teachers have been worst hit by the global pandemic and many have lost their jobs”.
In related development, aspiring Wakiso district chairman Moses Mayanja called on teachers to vote into office to bridge the missing link at the district leadership.
Who is Hon.Rosemary Seninde ?
Rosemary Nansubuga was born in Wakiso District on 7 January 1965. She went to St. Agnes Boarding Primary School for her early elementary schooling. She then attended St. Joseph’s Senior Secondary School for her O-Level studies, graduating in 1982. She then studied for her A-Level at Trinity college Nabbingo graduating in 1985. In 1997 she obtained a Teaching Certificate from Lady Irene College in Ndejje now a component of university.
In 2001, she graduated with a Diploma in Education, awarded by the Institute of Teacher Education (ITEK), now a component of Kyambogo University.
In 2005, she graduated with Bachelors in Human resource management awarded by Makerere university.
And in 2009 she was awarded a masters of arts in ethics and public management. he began her teaching career in 1987, as a teacher/instructor at a boarding elementary school, serving in that capacity until 1994.
She then transferred to Wampeewo Senior Secondary School as a teacher, serving in that capacity until 2000.
In 2001, for a period of less than one year, she worked as a tutor/instructor at Shimoni Teacher Training College.
In 2001, she entered elective Ugandan politics and was elected to represent the women of Wakiso district.She was reelected in 2006, 2011 and 2016, and is the incumbent.
In 2016, she was appointed the State Minister for primary education. Rosemary Nansubuga Sseninde is married to Zephaniah Kizza Sseninde since October 1985 and mother of seven children.
