Democratic Party bosses are in trouble over defying the presidential directives ahead of the 2021 elections.
Mayor Vicent Kayanja Depaul and aspiring parliamentarian Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekmwa plus others are in trouble of illegal campaigns and promoting people power activities in Entebbe.
This follows after the mayor’s arrest over illegal campaign drives promoting people power.
The police arrested the mayor after hiring a mobile service truck with speakers and giants screen to campaign in the town without police authority. Kayanja and others including the party chairman Makumbi Francis, party spokesperson Maggwa Ssali were first warned earlier over illegal campaigns and breaking presidential directive and health guidelines on COVID 19.
The Democratic Party authorities were earlier detained at Kitooro police station over organizing processions and campaigns for the youth councils ahead of the elections.
Inside sources have revealed that democrats are under pressure following the in-fighting and power struggle in the party after several party supporters disserting the party over The fights started from mayoral hopeful Stanley Namayirira that was denied room to contest for the mayoral seat after Mayor Kayanja’s two terms in office.
And on addition to that others including councilor Arafat Ssekawooya, Kasawuli Meddie Bawonga,Kibirige Tadeo have frustrated and stepped a side over their political ambitions. The rift between party leadership and supporters has costed the party to lose credible leaders including those that have quit the party for green pastures.
The inter squabbles with-in the party have seen those drumming support for outgoing division ‘B’ chairman Stanley Namayirira Kapeera step aside till all the mess is washed –out with clean sheets of new leaders. Inside sources have revealed that all Namayirira supporters have been side kicked and branded all bad names as moles within the party.
These biggest question remaining for Democratic Party stands, can party darling Micheal Kakembo Mbwatekamwa lead the party to the ‘Promised Land’ following his decision to either join the National Unity Party currently headed by Hon Kyagulanyi Sentamu a.k.a Bobby wine or remain a true democrat.
