Former parliamentarian and staunch democrat has called it quits for greener pastures ahead of the 2021 scientific elections and energized. The former parliamentarian Muhammad Kawuma is back into the political spotlight to contest for the mayoral seat in Entebbe.
Kawuma has bounced back to contest for the mayorship seat currently occupied by his worship Vicent Kayanja Depaul also commander of the democratic party in the constituency after the duo felling-out bitterly.
The former battalion commander of the Democratic Party has resurrected like blue moon for the top job after a couple of years of silence and out of politics. The political fire brand has bounced back with itchy fingers to contest against his rivals for the mayorship seat that was robbed from former Mayor Stephen Kabuye of the NRM party.Kawuma’s last political battle was in 2011 when former parliamentary hopeful Patience Mubangizi of the NRM party contested against his win with 13,727 votes, more than doubled his closet rival that garnered 8,973 votes.
This was a marked improvement in the DP strongman’s performance and in 2016, Kawuma anointed Hon Rosemary Tumusiime Bikaako for parliament as his successor after two terms in office.
Tumusiime emerged flag bearer for the municipality MP seat and leading the front-line which raised eye-brows after Hon Kawuma’s push. And since then, the former parliamentarian and Mayor Kayanja fell out after the 2011 elections and since then the two leaders have traded accusations against one another.
However the Democratic Party has remained struggling even with departure of Hon. Kawuma who was believed to be their master planner and chief decision maker now vying for the mayorship seat.
