Residents in Kabale town were shocked and angered on Friday, after a waitress working at Kirigime Guest House Quarantine Center was found freely moving in the local food market.

The waitress only identified as Winnie, is said to have been taking care of the 95 Coronavirus suspects at Kirigime Guest House in Kabale Municipality.

Winnie and other staff members are supposed to be confined in the hotel.

It is understood that inside the Guest House, the staff have no special medical gear to protect them from possibly contracting the virus.

Kirigime Guest House for a fortnight has been hosting 95 passengers who were intercepted in two Jaguar buses that were travelling from Rwanda at Katuna border post.

These were held under quarantine on orders of government after the Rwanda registered cases of the coronavirus, which put Uganda on high alert.

Staffs from the same Guest House have allegedly been leaving the Quarantine Center to shop in Kabale town for the suspects in town.

James Akanjuna, a resident of Rushambya Kirigime told our reporter that some of the Kirigime Guest House staffs live outside the Hotel, yet they have lived with the suspected virus carriers for a fortnight.

“We are at the mercy of God. They have no protection; they freely leave the hotel as if the suspects there are usual customers. If the suspects had the virus, then Kabale would be in a huge problem” Akanjuna says.

Alfred Besigensi the acting District Health Officer declined to pick our phone calls for a comment.

Uganda has lately confirmed 48 cases of the pandemic.
