Following the bloody scuffle that ensued in Parliament on Tuesday and Wednesday over the contentious Age limit motion, IGP Kale Kayihura has defended the swift action that the plain cloth security operatives took to throw out the Members of Parliament who defied Speaker Kadagga’s directive to immediately leave parliament after she suspended them over their acts of gross indiscipline that went against the Parliamentary rules of procedure and code of conduct.
Kayihura who made the remarks while addressing a press conference in Kasenyi Zone, Katabi Town Council on Thursday said that as per the constitution, Police is mandated to call in sister security agencies to maintain law and order.
“We (Police) had to deploy heavily at Parliament because we had anticipated through intelligence that the MPs were going to cause chaos. Together with other sister forces, we had to pre-plan and organize a joint security team that quickly stepped in and contained the situation because we received credible information that the MPs were planning to cause havoc and paralyze business in parliament including burning petrol stations around the city plus burning cars at the Parliamentary basement. We advised the speaker not to allow cars to be parked at the basement”, Kayihura remarked.
Kayihura hailed the swift action that the security operatives took in restoring order in Parliament and also thanked the Public for shunning the Members of Parliament who had mobilized them to demonstrate and cause havoc in the city. He categorically stated that the suspended MPs should be held to account because they defied the authority of the speaker.

Meanwhile during the Press conference, Kayihura warned the Public and the Media against speculating and publishing sensational news articles about the Murders of Women in Katabi Town Council adding that some sections of the public including the Media are making statements and publishing articles that jeopardize Police’s investigations.
“Some media houses are fond of pressurizing the Police to release information on rampant murders of women. This is a stern warning for them to stop being diversionary. Investigations are scientific and are a process which requires time and therefore let’s not play politics with the investigations and let’s not play with the lives of the women that were murdered. Now, instead of helping Police through their investigative Journalism, they are only focused on criticizing”, a visibly bitter Kayihura stressed.
Kayihura applauded the Katabi Town Council Chairman Ronald Kalema and his team who have worked alongside the Police and other security agencies in finding a lasting solution to the rampant murders of Women.
