The Entebbe St. John’s Church fraternity and congregation was all smiles on Sunday as the church got the much needed cash boost for the completion of the state of the Art new Church. The successful fundraising drive was attended by the speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadagga who contributed Three Million Shillings (Shs3m) and other Members of Parliament contributed a total sum of Ten million Shillings (Shs10m).
In her remarks, Kadagga thanked the Entebbe St. John’s church fraternity for keeping the church alive and thanked the Entebbe Municipality residents for electing Hon. Rose Tumusiime with whom she enjoys a very cordial relationship.

“First and foremost I would like to thank the people of Entebbe for electing Hon. Rose Tumusiime as a Member of Parliament. She is a Member of Parliament that I can work with and it’s because of her that I and other MPs have graced the fundraising drive for the completion of the new Entebbe St. John’s Church. St. John’s church deserves to have the best church because Entebbe represents Uganda’s image. I’ve contributed Shs3m; Shs1m for myself, Shs1m for my Father and Shs1m for my mother who is a former teacher at Chadwick Namate Primary School. Both my parents lived and worked in Entebbe”, Kadagga revealed.
On her part, Hon. Rose Tumusiime thanked Speaker Rebecca Kadagga for honoring the invite and appealed to the St. John’s Church congregation to continue contributing towards the completion of the new church adding that St. John’s deserves a beautiful church because Entebbe is the eye of the nation.

The Entebbe St. John’s Church vicar Rev. Emmanuel Ssewanyana revealed that the church council deemed it fit to construct a new church because the number of Christians in Entebbe has grown tremendously.
“The church council deemed it fit to construct a new church because the number of Christians is growing. We resolved to construct a brand new church that will suit the standard of the people around and the growing number of Christians. The church has so far consumed Shs1billion and 90 percent of the funds have come from the congregation. I would like to thank all those who have contributed generously and kindly continue contributing because our target is to have the New Church ready to be worshipped in by this year’s Christmas”, Rev. Ssewanyana told the congregation.

More cash and pledges were raised through the church congregation during the fundraising drive and over Shs5m was raised through the auction of a well framed Artistic image of the new church. Over Shs255m is needed to complete the new church. Construction of the new church commenced in 2008 when St. John’s Church held it’s centenary celebrations.
