
The Entebbe Municipality Member of Parliament Hon. Rose Tumusiime has bashed parents for marrying off their little girls. Hon. Tumusiime who was addressing the 19th Entebbe TASO General Assembly meeting that was held on Friday noted that child marriages are on the rise in Uganda. She called on police and other authorities to continuously arrest and issue severe punishments to all parents who engage in the inhuman practice.
Cases of child marriages are so rampant in Uganda today and in Gomba District the cases have increased at an alarming rate. We need to work with the different authorities to ensure that the vice is stamped out completely. Parents who engage in the inhuman practice need to be arrested and given tougher punishments, Hon. Tumusiime stressed.

She hailed the Aids Support Organization (TASO) Entebbe where she once served as a Chairperson and member Board of Trustees for weathering several challenges including decreasing donor funding. She appealed to all the patients who are on Anti-retroviral drugs (ARVs) not to give up even when their viral load has reduced.
Some patients on ARV’s have a tendency of abandoning their medication when they realize that the HIV Virus has reduced in their bodies. But it is dangerous because this may affect their health drastically, she noted.

Hon. Tumusiime also promised to roll-out a cancer screening programme to help women and the girl child combat the different cancer diseases such as Breast and cervical cancer. She hailed the International and donor community for continuously supporting TASO Activities and programs.
Meanwhile TASO revealed a plan to set up a private General Clinic that will be open to the public. The Clinic according to the TASO Centre Manager Robert Kadando will in generating revenue and supplement on the donor funds.
The meeting was attended by Bugonga Catholic Church Priest Fr. Joseph Ssebayiga who is also the Centre Advisory Committee (TASO) and Okiira Peter the Communications Specialist office of the Executive Director TASO Headquarters who represented the TASO Executive Director Dr. Bernard Etukoit.
