Over 200 Jambo Roses Flower Farm workers located in Nakawuka, Sissa Sub County, Wakiso District on Thursday held a sit down strike over cartoon pay. The bitter workers decided to lay down their tools after their bosses taking them for a ride for all these years with no plans to increase their salaries. The angry frustrated workers revealed that they are paid Shs90,000 and to make matters worse their bosses take long to pay them and yet they have to pay their rent in addition to looking after their families. The striking workers also complained that they work in very terrible and hazardous conditions with no safety gear to protect them from inhaling deadly chemical substances used in spraying the flowers. And when they fall sick their bosses knife them immediately without even taking them to Hospital.
Jennifer Nassozi one of the flower farm association workers Boss in Uganda said that she has held several negotiations with the company Bosses to increase salaries of the workers but they paid a deaf ear. The workers have given their Bosses an ultimatum to raise their pay to Shs250,000 before they can resume work. Meanwhile the company top Bosses weren’t available for a comment over the matter. They reportedly vanished into thin air from their offices after the matter turned hot for them.
