Events emcee and media personality MC Kats has responded to a notice of intention to sue from Swangz Avenue over the trademark violation of their Roast & Rhyme trademark.
Taking to his social media platforms, MC Kats explained that he is not part of the event organisers, emphasising that the event has been happening for over six years and that he was booked to perform at this year’s edition.
“I’m booked for the event. Both events have been ongoing for 6-9 years. I’m not the organizer nor the promoter. I do not give names; I’m just booked. To whoever is ending me lawsuits,”
For clarity, he shared a video from Vibes UG, one of the organisers of the show, stating that the parties featured on the poster were not connected to the event’s management.
“Every other year, we have been organizing this event, and we have different people featured from Uganda. I just wanted to clarify so that people do not say that MC Kats is the organizer,” Vibes UG said
Vibes further revealed that they were not using anyone’s brand name but were using ‘Roast & Rhyme’ as a theme. He admitted that the show would further go on as intended.

This comes after they were issued an intention to sue from the label for allegedly using their Roast & Rhyme logo and name without consent.
The poster in question has MC Kats, Top Boy MC, and Morgan MC, who are expected to host the event dubbed ‘DXB Winter Fest Roast & Rhyme Edition’ scheduled for November in Dubai.

Swangz Avenue orders that Vibes Promotions cease from using the Roast & Rhyme logo, and delete all online and offline promotional materials bearing the logo within seven days of the notice.
They are also expected to compensate Swangz Avenue with a tune of 1 billion and 90 million in legal fees within seven days, and failure to comply with the demands would force the label to go on with the legal action.
