The Buganda Kingdom is in a state of mourning following the untimely death of Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala Ndege, the youngest sister of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.

The news of the Princess’s passing was confirmed by royal sources and family members, marking a somber moment for the royal household and the subjects of the Buganda Kingdom.

Who Was Princess Diana Teyeggala Ndege?

Princess Diana Teyeggala was the daughter of the late Ssekabaka Edward Mutesa II and Katherine Karungu. Born in October 1966, shortly after her father went into exile in England, she was known for her vibrant personality and her deep connection to her cultural roots.

Unlike many who knew her solely for her royal lineage, those close to the Princess describe her as a modern, career-driven woman who balanced contemporary life with her traditional duties as a Naalinya (a high-ranking royal sister responsible for ancestral shrines).

Her Role in the Buganda Kingdom

As the youngest sister of the Kabaka, Princess Teyeggala played a vital role in the preservation of Kiganda culture. She was specifically tasked with overseeing the rituals and maintenance of the Kagulu Tebuchwereke tombs, an ancient and culturally significant site for the monarchy.

In her private life, she was often celebrated for her approachable nature and her love for Ugandan music and social gatherings. She was also a mother and a former wife to Robert Kannuma, a former official in the Uganda Department of Immigration.

Tributes Pour in for the Fallen Royal

Following the announcement of her death, tributes have flooded in from across Uganda. Leaders, cultural enthusiasts, and members of the public have taken to social media to express their condolences to the Kabaka and the entire Olulyo Olulangira (the Royal Family).

One family member noted, “She was the soul of the family—vibrant, outspoken, and always proud of her heritage. Her loss leaves a void that will be hard to fill.”

    Burial Arrangements

The Buganda Kingdom administration is expected to release a detailed funeral program and burial schedule in accordance with royal traditions.

The passing of Princess Teyeggala comes at a time when the Kingdom continues to emphasize the importance of unity and cultural preservation. Her legacy as a modern princess who remained steadfast in her traditional duties will continue to inspire many within and outside the Kingdom.
