Police at Entebbe International Airport has Tuesday afternoon intercepted and arrested seven suspects over drug trafficking charges. According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy PRO, Luke Owoyesigyire, the suspects were in possession of 16 and a half kilograms of heroin and narcotic drugs which have also been recovered in due process. General Court Martial chaired by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti on Monday convicted Abdallah Kitatta, the leader of Boda Boda 2010, for multiple offences. The court presided over by a seven-member panel led by Lt Gen Andrew Gutti also convicted Sowali Ngoobi of unlawful possession of firearms. Meanwhile the same court acquitted; Joel Kibirige, Matia Senfuka, Hassan Sebatta, John Sebandeke, Hussein Mugema, Fred Bwanika and Amon Twinomujuni of the offences of unlawful possession of firearms and military supplies. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has confirmed that security chiefs routinely meet to discuss threats to national security including political demonstrations if need be. Reacting to a leaked letter that claimed that security chiefs in the country were due to meet to discuss the defiance campaign spearheaded by FDC’s Dr Kizza Besigye, Brig Richard Karemire, the UPDF spokesperson told NBS TV that such a meeting would be no different from other routine meetings they hold. The minister for Kampala Beti Olive Namisango Kamya yesterday survived being beaten to pulp by rowdy vendors at Wandegeya market who blamed her for not solving their problems. She was saved by the police who later arrested those who wanted to cause fracas in the market. Vendors claimed that they have raised their issues many times but KCCA had failed to address them. Burundi head of State, Pierre Nkurunziza, has ordered all ‘irregular’ foreigners living in Burundi to be out of the country, to be repatriated or extradited to their countries of origin. Singer, producer and music writer Richard Kawesa has challenged the presidential immunity enjoyed by President Museveni as the head of state for Uganda. Article 98(4) of the Constitution of Uganda states that a president shall not be liable to any proceedings in any court while still in office.
