On Thursday April 9th , ChildFund Uganda Country Program disbursed funds worth UGX 1.4 billion to 9 local partners to implement cash transfers to 29,000 enrolled households. The Country Office decided to reprogram its available funds to respond to the emerging needs of vulnerable enrolled households in the communities it serves in the 28 districts in the Country. The transfers will be made through mobile money, banking and other appropriate platforms available to families to access the cash. The UPDF 1st infantry Division court martial on Tuesday heard and sentenced seven Local Defence Unit personnel and one civilian at Kakiri Division headquarters. The LDUs were accused of beating civilians during the enforcement of presidential directives on COVID-19. They were sentenced to two months in prison. The ministry of Foreign Affairs has agreed with the government of China to assist all Ugandans in distress in China. This follows videos that made rounds showing Ugandans and other Africans claiming mistreatment and xenophobia against them by Chinese nationals. Parliament secretly allocated Shs 10bn, from the COVID-19 supplementary budget, to facilitate Members of Parliament in the committees established by the House to join national activities in the fight against the pandemic. South Korean officials have reported that 91 patients thought to have recovered from the new coronavirus had tested positive again.
