Singer Nina Roz, real name Nina Kankunda, has apologized to her fans who took her visit to UCC out of context.
Nina sparked social media debate when she visited Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) executive director Nyombi Thembo to discuss her upcoming concert.
The photos sparked hostile comments, with netizens questioning why Nina, who is associated with NUP, would meet a senior government official who openly supports the ruling party.
Responding to the criticism, Nina Roz confirmed that she wanted to get a certification from him allowing her to hold her concert.
“There is no artist who holds a concert minus stepping into that office. The only difference with me was that he asked for a photo. He posted the video and I had no control over that,” she said.

Nina further apologised to her fans who had interpreted her visit out of context, emphasizing that her concert was not political and welcoming everyone who wanted to attend despite their political sect.

“Sorry to those that perceived it wrongly but this is to clear the air to my fans that I didn’t betray them. That is the right office I had to go through because I’m not above the law or the government. He agreed to buy a table as someone who loves my music and I cannot stop him. This is a musical show and not a political show. There was music before politics and without music, they wouldn’t have known me. I have so much respect for everyone who is coming to support me and I do not segregate,” she said.
