Socialite and businesswoman Zari Hassan has responded to the long-standing controversy questioning her ex-husband’s manner of death.
The controversy was reignited on social media by journalist Simon Kaggwa Njala, who alleged that Ivan Semwanga might be alive and hiding somewhere.
He claimed that he made a call at the time of his death to the hospital where he was supposedly admitted to ask for his medical records, and they allegedly didn’t know him.
Zari dismissed Simon’s claims, noting that he was just idle and riding on assumptions, emphasizing that the hospitals in South Africa were too professional to give out private information about their patients to strangers.
“When people are poor, they run mad and start assuming things that are not true. Misery loves company. Those are the results of lacking what to do. Who is he to ask for private information? Hospitals here are professional; you cannot just call and ask them for the medical report, and they give it to you just like that. They have a policy of patient confidentiality. Secondly, which Semwanga were you looking for because when we get here, we have our names that we use,” she said.

Zari confirmed that Ivan had indeed passed away and they identified his body in the hospital. They went through the entire process with the paperwork to have his body brought back to Uganda, and when they landed, they had a post-mortem from another hospital.

“How can you get up one morning and start seeking such information about someone? What for? because his family knows that he indeed passed away,” she said.
