Kampala, Uganda | NEWS CORRESPONDENT | At 52, Samalie Kristensen wears many hats: dedicated social worker, mother of four, active gardener, and passionate humanitarian. Living in Denmark, she balances a full-time career supporting families within the Danish welfare system with an unwavering commitment to vulnerable children back home in East Africa.
As a core advocate for TDC Charity and Orphanage, Samalie dedicates her free time to expanding educational opportunities, healthcare, and daily support for orphaned children in both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Having spent her early years studying at Kololo High School in Kampala, Samalie eventually relocated to Denmark to build her professional career. Yet, despite the physical distance, her heart remained deeply tied to the community that raised her.

Operating directly out of Kampala and extending its vital support to Bukavu in South Kivu (DRC), the charity serves as an essential lifeline—providing shelter, nutritious meals, access to education, and emotional grounding to children who have lost their parents.
For Samalie, the mission isn’t just about providing basic aid; it is fundamentally about restoring dignity and providing a sustainable sense of direction.
“Every child deserves to believe they have a future. My role is simply to help them hold on to that hope,” she says.
Life in Denmark keeps her grounded. Between her professional responsibilities and her international advocacy work, Samalie finds peace in the quiet, nourishing rhythms of home. She tends to her vibrant garden, keeps a backyard beehive, practises digital marketing, loves to sing, and enjoys long walks with her dog, Rex.
Her life beautifully bridges two very different worlds—one rooted in European social care, the other in East African community empowerment. Through her work with TDC Charity and Orphanage, Samalie proves that distance is no barrier to impact, demonstrating how personal dedication and compassionate purpose can connect continents to transform young lives.
