Veteran events promoter Abitex Promotions is reportedly counting losses after the recently concluded Comedy Festival that was held over the weekend at the UMA Show Grounds.
During one of the radio shows, Abitex revealed that he invested over UGX 220M in the festival, with hopes of making a profit.
He did this in celebration of the comedy industry, but unfortunately, he was not able to get back the money he had invested.
“We have less than ten comedians that can attract us money. People like Mariachi, Amooti, Maulana and Reign are a few of them. I gave all comedians money because we wanted to celebrate our own comedy. I thought I would get some money and buy something tangible. The comedian who got the least money got like 500K yet if you are to put him on a poster, he cannot even generate 100K,” he said.
Describing himself as one of the top promoters, Abitex revealed he was no longer focused on making a name for himself, but rather on earning money from concerts. For this particular one, he noted that he only managed to collect 150 million.

To add to his disappointment, Senga Justine Natume allegedly started demanding her money despite promising that he would fully cover her UGX 500K balance after the concert.

“But one comedian came on stage demanding their full pay; we suggested they get half of it first so we gave others something too but they complained. I got so mad at Justine Nantume for doing that. I even wanted to break down, I gave her like 2 million,” Abitex Promotions said.
