The Uganda Communications Commission, William Nyombi Thembo, has vowed to revive the beauty of the Kadongo Kamu music genre through a massive concert on 31st July.
The communication was made by the UCC Executive Director, George William Nyombi Thembo, and while speaking to journalists, he revealed that the concert will happen every year as a way to revive and promote the once vibrant genre.
Thembo noted that UCC, alongside several music promoters, is actively involved in seeing that the concert is a success. He added that he was in close contact with some of the big names around the city to convince them to take an interest.
Thembo described Kadongo Kamu as the foundation of Ugandan music. With the introduction of the new school genre of music, the pioneers of the industry were slowly fading off the scene, and they felt they had to preserve its legacy.

“The younger generation should know that I have lived through it, and on behalf of the government, we will revive it. Kadongo Kamu is the pioneer genre through which Ugandan music came. The music industry has now grown and evolved because of the men and women who you see as old. We want this genre to stay forever. It was dying away slowly. When you listen to the songs that our children release lately, those of us who know music will notice that most of the chords are from Kadongo Kamu. This is a seed, and we shouldn’t destroy it but instead look after it and preserve it,” he said.

The concert, however, is not limited to only Kadongo Kamu performances. New school artists will also be given an opportunity to perform for the attendees, so that they get to experience both generations of music.
