Swangz Avenue singer Vinka has explained the controversy surrounding her new song after reports accused her of plagiarism.
Following the claims, Vinka revealed that she found herself in the mix after she released her hit single ‘Mine’, which sounds very similar to Gael Will’s ‘Stay’.
Amidst the criticism and discussions among music lovers, Vinka linked the problem to Swangz Avenue producer Banger Boi, the producer behind the audio. According to Vinka, the producer gave her songwriter, Tazzy, who was supposed to pen down the lyrics based on the beat.
Unknown to her, Banger Boi gave the same beat to Gael Will’s writer, who also followed the same. To make it more complicated, he worked on the audio for both artists, and both songs came out sounding exactly the same.
When she realized that they had the same song, he reached out to the producer, but unfortunately, Gael had rushed to release his version after Vinka. She insisted that it wasn’t her fault that they had the same songs, but the producer’s, who gave the beat to two different people.

Amidst all this, Vinka revealed it wasn’t a big deal, as it was common practice in the industry for artists to jump on the same riddim as long as they had the producer’s go-ahead.

“That was my problem. I do not want people to act like I copied someone’s song because we have all seen and done riddims. We know that you pay the producer for the beat as long as he gives you permission to use it. For this case, Banger gave the beat to two writers. And Gael Will came back later, claiming he had recorded the song, but Banger Boi told him I already had it. I didn’t even know about it before,” Vinka said.
Vinka denied knowledge of Gael Will’s song, saying she only learned about it after she had released her song.
