National Resistance Movement (NRM)  supporters in Entebbe Municipality were left surprised on May 19, 2025, after arriving to vote for their local party leaders, only to discover that all candidates were declared unopposed.

Among those who secured their positions without contest were former mayor Steven Kabuye (NRM Chairperson, Entebbe Municipality), Kasozi Kiruweru (Vice Chairperson), Edrisa Figo Matovu (Spokesperson), and Senfuka Tamuzadde (Elderly Representative).

Their unopposed victories were officially announced by NRM party registrar Salongo Kalule. However, several party members have since raised concerns, accusing the local leadership of deliberately ring-fencing positions and influencing the internal electoral process to avoid competition.

Edrisa Figo Matovu, who retained his role as party spokesman, expressed gratitude for the peaceful nature of the electoral process, noting that all structural elections—from LC1 level to the municipality—were conducted without violence.

Matovu further stated that the NRM’s primary objective is to build a strong, united team capable of defeating opposition candidates in the 2026 general elections.

He highlighted that 22 out of the 24 villages in Entebbe Municipality are currently led by NRM LC1 chairpersons, reflecting the party’s strong grassroots presence.
