Pallaso fires back at Katikkiro Mayiga over rejection of his Sir title

Musician Pallaso has responded to Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga’s revelation that he was just invited to perform and never knighted, as he portrayed it before the public.

Two years ago, Pallaso bragged about being the first artist to be recognized and appreciated by the Kabaka and given the ‘Sir’ title. Katikiro, however, made it clear in an interview earlier this week that he was just invited to perform at the Kabaka’s birthday but not knighted.

In his response, Pallaso was unhappy with Katikiro’s submissions, reminding him that the Kabaka summoned him because they appreciated his music.

According to Pallaso, his visit to the Lubiri was after the Kabaka personally sent for him through his son, Prince Jjunju. When he got there, he was not on the lineup of performers, but Kabaka himself asked him to perform for him, which he says had never happened to any other artist.

Pallaso believes he got this prestigious opportunity because of his good music, and he echoed when the Kabaka mentioned that he used them for his exercises.

“I appreciate everything that Katikiro said but I want to remind him that Kabaka appreciated and chose me. There were very many people around him that he could have sent to get me, but he used the Prince himself, Jjunju, his son, to come for me. I was not on the program but Kabaka himself got the microphone and told me to sing before him. This had never happened before in the industry.

He even sent me a special message in a video appreciating me. He said it himself, and you cannot undo the words that came out of the King’s own mouth,” Pallaso said.

While referring to the 1900 Buganda Agreement, Pallaso explained how important it was for everyone in the Kingdom to know their place and roles. Pallaso emphasized that the Katikiro was appointed to offer counsel to the Kabaka and perform administrative roles, but never made rules or gave titles.

“Mr. Charles Peter was also appreciated by the Kabaka and appointed as the Katikiro; hence, he did not see it coming, but the Kabaka chose him because he (Kabaka) had the last rank to decide in the kingdom.

He is just a Prime Minister, head of department, or an administrator and doesn’t decide on anything. He cannot take back what Kabaka has said. Katikiro gives counsel to the King, and amongst his roles in Buganda, the Katikiro doesn’t give titles,” Pallaso said.
