Geoffrey Oloya, the first recipient of the UGX 100,000 relief money who the Prime Minister Nabbanja spoke to on phone has been arrested.
This comes days after Gulu City officials told MPs that they don’t know him and the number that was called has been off since he received the money.
Oloya was paraded before the press on Tuesday, 07 September 2021.
Last week, Gulu city taskforce said they would arrest wrong beneficiaries of Covid-19 relief cash following the intervention of the Parliamentary Public Account Committee (PAC) that faulted them over mismanagement of the money.
PAC also found that Olanya isn’t a boda boda cyclist but was doing a different job.
The Gulu RCC, Richard Odongpiny and the City Clerk Moses Otimong admitted that some of the money went to ghost beneficiaries and to none Gulu city residents.
“Preliminary findings by the parliamentary committee on us is not really very pleasing. There’s no one who will take advantage on money coming to Gulu city,” Mr Otimong said during a city taskforce meeting last week.
“We are actually still ashamed and we are going to open an investigation and those who will be found shall be arrested.” Mr Odongpiny said in the meeting.
