    Weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko Released on Bond

    Embattled Weightlifter Julius Ssekitoleko has Wednesday afternoon been released on police bond after spending five days  in custody at Jinja road police station.

    As per the bond, Ssekitoleko is being charged with the offence of ‘CONSPIRACY TO DEFRAUD’ under case file number GEF 674/2021.

    The 24-year old varnished from his hotel premises at Team Uganda’s camp in Izumisano city, Japan after missing out on featuring at the ongoing 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.

    After four days of hide and seeking, Ssekitoleko later surrendered himself in before being apprehended by Japanese Police authorities at Mie Prefecture and then deported back home.

    According to his lawyers, Counsel Anthony Wameli, Phillip Munaabi and Geoffrey Turyamusiima, the Weightlifter will report back to Police next week on August 4th.

    Ssekitoleko has previously participated at the 2018 Commonwealth games in Australia, 2019 All Africa games in Morrocco and the 2021 Africa Weightlifting championships in Kenya.
