Doctors have at last shed light on the sudden death of the Kampala Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, revealing Monday that he succumbed to heart disease.
Dr Charles Ssekitoleko who is also the Archdiocesan Health Coordinator of the Kampala Archdiocese told mourners this afternoon that Dr Lwanga had died of a condition known as “Ischemic Heart Disease”
The death he said, followed a coronary artery thrombosis.
“This means a heart attack that is due to a blood clot that was found in the artery that supplies blood to the heat,” he said
“When this happens, it takes three to five minutes to pass on.”
Dr Ssekitoleko revealed that he was the first physician at the home of Dr Lwanga where the cleric was found dead on Saturday.
He said he was the one that confirmed him dead at exactly 9am in the morning.
Ssekitoleko also told mourners Archbishop Lwanga is not likely to have suffered when he suffered the heart attack.
The cause of death according to Dr Sekotoleko was established following a post mortem that was conducted at Mulago National Referral Hospital by a team of four senior pathologists; in the presence of two representatives the family and two doctors delegated by the Church.
The Doctor further revealed that the heart disease condition was consistent with the history of illness of the arch bishop.
