Members of Parliament from the National Resistance Movement party, who were not successful in the just concluded primary elections, have launched a move to mobilize for the party and its presidential flagbearer, President Yoweri Museveni in the forthcoming elections.

The team led by State Minister of Investments and Privatization, Evelyn Anite addressed media at Parliament on Wednesday saying they will not stand against the party candidates in the general election.

“We are unveiling to the nation our plans for an intense countrywide mobilization effort to garner more support for both our mass party NRM and H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as well as hold a drive to reconcile party members across the Nation,” said Anite.

Anite noted that they are already drawing strategies to ensure that the party and the presidential candidate register massive victory in the 2021 general elections.

“Together with my colleagues, we are already busy putting things in order for NRM and President Museveni to record the highest win ever,” said Anite.

She acknowledged that there were irregularities witnessed during the primary elections but said these should not affect the harmony and strength of the party.

“Reorganization of the party is pertinent to iron out irregularities and mismanagement that led to chaos or disagreements in some areas. We as a party need to reconcile warring factions in various districts and ensure unity,” said Anite.

Some of the MPs who addressed the press today included Lilian Nakate, Mandela Amos, John Bosco Lubyayi, Michael Tusiime, Abraham Byandala and Charles Illukor.

They noted that anomalies surrounding the voter registry precipitated confusion hence adversely affecting the outcome of the election in some constituencies.

The team also pledged to convince their aggrieved colleagues not to join other political parties like the National Unity Platform of Robert Kyagulanyi and Forum for Democratic Change, now under Patrick Amuriat.

Charles Illukor the Kumi county MP stressed the NRM party still remains the party to deliver Uganda from the problems it faces and revealed that he was courted by the FDC president Amuriat Oboi but he declined.
