Ugandans who had been stranded in Canada due to grounding of passenger flights are expected to arrive at the Entebbe International Airport today, Sunday.
The ministry of foreign affairs says left Lester B Pearson International Airport Toronto on Saturday.
Their departure was overseen by the High Commissioner of Uganda to Canada Joy Ruth Acheng.
The activity to repatriate Ugandans had commenced on May 18 but was suspended for two weeks from July 4 to allow the Ministry of Health “to efficiently manage the numbers in the quarantine”, officials say.
The exercise resumed on July 18, with arrivals from USA, South America and the Caribbean.
According to a statement from the ministry, the sequencing of these returns began with arrivals through Entebbe internationals airport and will later be followed by returns through the land borders.
Over 2000 Ugandans are stranded abroad in different countries.
