The minister said that rural women have been lacking entrepreneurship skills to improve their income levels and contribution to economic development.

The national training workshop was organized for stakeholders and participants to learn practical skills of empowering rural women in the Northern region. The Uganda Women Enterprise Programme (UWEP) National Programme Coordinator, Brenda Kifuko Malinga, said that 33.8% of women in Uganda are involved in business entrepreneurship and therefore given an opportunity women will initiate and grow their enterprises.

She added that there is need to strengthen the capacity of women for entrepreneurship development, provide affordable credit and access to appropriate technologies for production and value addition. She said that majority of women sell their products in local markets and their products are not of sufficient quality to access the competitive regional and international markets.
