According to the proprietors, the club will host Christians from different backgrounds and churches who need a place that offers “clean and godly entertainment for all.”

Host of the ‘wake-up call’ on Spirit 96.6 FM, King Wesley on Friday announced the opening of a non-alcoholic, smoke free Christian Club at Equatorial Mall in Kampala.

The development received mixed reactions on social media with critics urging that regardless of what was envisioned, “the ideologies of a Club and Christians don’t mix.”

Uganda is home to hundreds of night clubs and pubs, most of which have been deemed as part of the world which is controlled by Satan – designed for the purpose of giving oneself over to sinful desires.

Yet still, Church leaders have occasionally used the pulpit to explain how music played in such places incites attendees into violence and sinful acts.

They believe a lot of society’s problems are being driven by a lack of morality from the media and entertainment industry.

“One of the best things to do is to go to a place where they can have positive recreation and good positive music,”

“Besides just alcohol and drugs, there is so much that could happen but if it can be avoided, why not have a space where young Christians can express themselves freely,”

The Club will also offer Christian artists a platform to connect with their fans. There’s no explicitly stated dress code or dancing limitations, but attendees are expected to be respectful of each other and the Christian faith.

    Social Media Reactions.

“Idea is ok but does the world really have to show us direction or do we have to compete with them? We are the ones supposed to influence them not the other way around!” – @OkenyMoses

“I don’t mind the idea of a social hub what I have reservations on is the idea of labeling it “a Christian” club. It by nature becomes exclusive and discriminatory. I think it should be just be a social hub where the content will determine its clients.” – @philiponen_papa

“Fanaticism should be far away from this club. Most times people tie God into things and force God into things he isn’t. Somethings look like they are of God, have God but When your really check. God is not in these things. We have to “watch” as we club.” – @Vhi_key

“This will help to bring music lovers to Christ instead of going to the secular discos one can meet Christ in this place.” – @DaniDannyDan1

As a way of offering an alternative, the proprietors of this new club claim it will be a secure place for Christian youth who don’t have anything to do on Friday, Saturday nights and “need to stay out of trouble.”
