The bodyguard and driver of the Bank of Uganda’s former executive director for Supervision, Ms Justin Bagyenda are expected to appear in Court this afternoon.
The parliamentary committee investigating the closure of commercial banks last Thursday ordered police to arrest Ms Juliet Adikot (bodyguard) and Mr Job Turyahabwe (driver) after the duo gave contradicting testimonies to the committee in relation to Ms Bagyenda’s itinerary on the day three bags were returned to the central bank on February 10, 2018.
Mr Charles Mollo and Ms Beatrice Kyambadde, the BoU security personnel, who were manning the access points that Ms Bagyenda used, were also arrested for negligence because they allowed her in and out without conducting the requisite checks as spelt out in the BoU security manual.
The duo had initially told a sub-committee chaired by the Army MP, Brig Francis Takirwa, that they drove Ms Bagyenda from Entebbe airport directly to BoU.
The four are expected to appear at City Hall Court in Kampala this afternoon.
While appearing before the Committee yesterday Ms Bagyenda apologised for missing committee meetings and begged the committee to release her bodyguard and driver.
The committee chairperson Mr Abdu Mr Katuntu rejected her request and reminded her that it’s a criminal offence to lie while on oath.
“It’s a matter of police and DPP,” Mr Katuntu said.
MPs told Bagyenda that she was going to be arrested if she had not appeared on Monday.
