The Fortebet Real Stars Sports monthly awards will on Tuesday recognize the outstanding sports personalities for the month of March at route 256 restaurant in Lugogo.
Three sports disciplines in Golf, Rugby and Football have three candidates each, vying for top prize.
Irene Nakalembe, Joseph Cwinya-ai and Martha Babirye have made the grade from golf thanks to their outstanding exploits last month.
Nakalembe shot a closing round three-under-par 68 to grab her 7th consecutive Entebbe Ladies Open title after returning a total of 147 gross at Entebbe Club on the 6th of March.
Trailing by seven strokes after the opening round on Friday, the handicap-4 player had to dig deep to edge her nearest rival and the biggest threat to this year’s championship, Martha Babirye, by two strokes. She scored 7 birdies on the last day to make eight over the two days and win the main trophy for keeps.
Joseph Cwinya-ai returned 140 gross over 36 holes to win the first edition of the Equity Rwenzori Open at Tooro Club on March 18. Cwinya-ai edged Denis Asaba by a stroke to win his first championship in over a year where Entebbe Club’s Chris Baguma finished third.
Martha Babirye was runners up in the Entebbe ladies open with 149 gross, two strokes away from winner Nakalembe. She had led by seven strokes in the first round but succumbed to pressure to lose out on the championship.
From Rugby, winger Justine Kimono, Pius Ogena and Maxwell Ebonga will battle for the gong. Kimono had six trys in four games for Kobs who are currently on top of the league with 20 points.
8th man Pius Ogena registered Six trys for Kobs in three games while fullback Maxwell Ebonga had 5 trys and six conversions in three games for the Hippos who are fourth with 11 points.
Police FC and Uganda Hippos forward Derrick Kakooza, KCCA FC youngster Sadat Anaku and Uganda Premier League leading top scorer Steven Mukwala have made the final list in football.
Kakooza was the top scorer with five goals in the just concluded 2020 AFCON U20 finals held in Mauritania. The Police FC talisman scored a hat-trick in the semifinals against Tunisia as Uganda registered a 4-1 win to reach the final before claiming the man of the match honor.
URA FC’s Steven Mukwala scored five goals in five games last month for the Tax men, leading the scorers chart with 10 goals.
He was on target as URA registered victories against UPDF (1-0), Kyetume (2-0), Vipers SC (2-1) before scoring twice against Onduparaka (3-0) at the Green Light stadium in Arua.
Sadat Anaku scored six goals in five games, helping the Kasassiro Boys garner 10 points from a possible 15..
Anaku also grabbed a brace as KCCA FC thrashed UPDF 6-1 before his priceless goal that salvaged a point for the Kasassiro Boys during a 1-1 draw with Police at Lugogo.
