Over two thousand Nkumba University students are crying crocodile tears after the university reopened and authorities forced them to pay for university property that was vandalized last year in November during a student’s strike over hiked fees. The university closed for four days after rowdy students suspended lectures and resorted to destroying university property including hitting university vehicles and throwing stones to disperse top university authorities including the University Chancellor Prof. Hannington Ssengendo
The university suspended all lectures and closed the campus premises for a couple of weeks. The university council resolved that every rowdy student that participated in the student’s strike to pay Shs. 200,000 in the bank for the vandalized university property.
The university students have been flocking different banks to pay the Shs. 200,000 since the university reopened for the first semester early last month. The students have been reporting back to the university after signing a commitment form in Entebbe court in addition to presenting a paid back slip.
