Martin Sikoria claimed victory at the third Entebbe Charity Run that was held on Saturday. Sikoria emerged winner in the 21km race category with a timing of 1:03:55. He walked away with a mobile phone hand set and a cash prize of Shs.100, 000 courtesy of Africell Telecom. In second position was Baron Kwesiga who finished the race with a timing of 1:05:39, he too received a mobile phone hand set and a cash prize of Shs.70,000. In third position was Joseph Nsubuga who finished the race with a timing of 1:06:02, he received a mobile phone hand set and a cash prize of Shs.50,000.
In the 10km race category Ettau Rashid, Victor Roy Lataa and Rogers Tinkamanyire scooped the first, second and third slots respectively. Each received a mobile phone handset and a cash prize of Shs.50,000, 30,000 and 20,000 respectively. Janet Anyango emerged winner in the ladies category, she received a 3G Modem with data and a buffet voucher for two at Protea Hotel.
In the 5km walk, Jackie Namirimu, David Wasswa Kasule, David Mugyenyi and Sarah Tufton finished in first, second, third and fourth positions respectively. They received mobile phone handsets and buffet vouchers for two at Protea Hotel.
Shortly after the race chief runner and Interpol Boss Asan Kasingye urged leaders in Entebbe and parents to sensitize the youth and children on the dangers of taking drugs.
“There are many young people in Kitoro and Nakiwoogo who are addicted to drugs. They need to be mobilised, sensitized and counseled on the dangers of taking drugs because the crime rate is increasing” Kasingye stated.
Samuel Batambira the charity run organizer indicated that all proceeds will go to the child welfare ministry vocational School in Kiwafu.
“All the proceeds will go to the establishment of a tailoring school. The charity run is also one avenue that we are using to identify talent and promote tourism in Entebbe” Batambira stated.
Close to 200 participants took part this year’s edition that was sponsored by Africell (former orange teelecom) and protea Hotel.
