President Museveni has hit back at former Prime Minister John Patrick Amama Mbabazi after he made his 2016 Presidential bid official on YouTube. Museveni who received the news about Mbabazi’s presidential bid shortly after arriving from South Africa where he had travelled to attend the AU Summit indicated that Mbabazi has a lot to explain adding that he will be invited to explain on some of the weaknesses in government that he claims he’ll rectify once he is elected president.
“Mbabazi has been at the centre of the system having served in the security services, parliament, Prime Minister and NRM secretary General. He is saying that the country is tired and he is vowing to address issues of corruption and restore democratic principles once he is elected President but as Prime Minister he should have done the supervisory role to ensure that government ministries were performing as required” Museveni told a press briefing at State House.
Museveni added: “Mbabazi is wasting time because the time for politicking hasn’t yet begun and there are proper channels in the party to address his grievances”
He added that the NRM had to amend the party constitution to have a full time secretary General because he (Mbabazi) had failed to organize the party.
“Mbabazi will have to explain about the weaknesses in government that he himself failed to address as Prime Minister” Museveni stated
Mean while NRM party Mouth piece Ofwono Opondo has indicated that Mbabazi is likely to face corruption charges.
“Mbabazi’s name surfaced in the Chogm and Temangalo scandal though the cases were swept under the carpet” Opondo stated.
Mbabazi fell out with his former Boss and long time comrade Museveni after it emerged that he was nursing Presidential ambitions. He has now joined the list of Presidential aspirants who want to grab Museveni’s seat including Prof. Byaramureeba, Kizza Besigye, Mugisha Muntu and David Sejusa.
The news of Mbabazi’s Presidential bid has continued to raise eyebrows around the country including dominating news headlines.
