Ministry of Local Government has recognized Entebbe Municipality as the best local government unit in Uganda in the area of service delivery and in a number of other programs including fiscal planning, engineering, governance, staffing and revenue enhancement. Entebbe Municipality also emerged as the best local government unit in the transparency and accountability sectors.
KPMG an internationally recognized audit firm was contracted by the world bank and the public procurement and disposal of public assets Authority (PPDA) Uganda’s procurement body to assess and audit all municipalities in Uganda in the utilization of Uganda support to Municipal infrastructural Development funds (USMID), Entebbe Municipality emerged as the best unit with a total score of 84.5 percent.
Speaking to entebbenews about the recent recognition of Entebbe Municipality, Mayor Vincent Kayanja DePaul disclosed that he and the Town clerk have given unity and autonomy to the procurement department to play their role.
“There is neither political nor technical interference in the procurement department. Secondly the procurement team is keen during the bidding, evaluation and award of the contracts” Kayanja disclosed.
“We still have to address the biting unemployment, housing crisis, street lighting and continuously beautifying the municipality” he stressed.
