A Senior Six student at Pentagon High School in Kabale has been hospitalized with serious injuries at the Kabale Police Health Centre III, after the school administrators allegedly beat him badly and later locked him up in the school toilet accusing him of shouting in the school library.
Onesmus Mwesigwa, a student of Pentagon High School in Rwakaraba in Kabale Municipality was reportedly assaulted by school administrators using electric wires, after he was caught making noise in the school library.
Jackeline Mwesigwa, the student’s mother says she was told by other students that at around 2pm, while Mwesigwa was in the Library reading he started conversing with his friends, and that the School Librarian order anthem to move out but when they delayed moving out, the Director of Studies, one Enos entered with anger and immediately took Mwesigwa to the staff room where he found the Headmaster and another teacher and they all started beating the helpless boy with an electric wire.
They also punched him multiple times all over the body, before locking him in the school toilet up to the around 4 pm.
Mwesigwa says that after releasing his son, he was helped by other students to get home without any help from the school administration.
When contacted, the school head teacher, Julius Mujurizi who is accused together with his two staff members admitted that it was not right to use that level of force.
He claimed however, that Mwesigwa had a knife and that he injured the School Director of Studies and bit another teacher which forced them to use excessive force.
At Kabale police health Center III Mwesigwa was asked to do an MRI scan from Kabale Regional Referral hospital.
Speaking with difficulty from his hospital bed, Mwesigwa wondered why the school administrators beat him up.
Richard Musinguzi the in charge of Kabale police health centre III where the victim is admitted, said they are closely monitoring his health but did not go in details.
When our reporter tried to contact the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, Elly Maate he declined to comment on the matter but the case was reported at Kabale Central Police station under reference number SD REF: 72/28/06/022.
